SkypeLife
Project SkypeLife (SkypeLife Series, 2009; Video, 2:05, 2009) is about fragility of virtual space and interpersonal communication.
Internet plays increasingly important role in our life nowadays. Some people almost live in the virtual space. There is already no need to leave the house to go to work, go shopping, pay bills and chat with friends. It is more and more often being done via Internet. One can communicate via Skype with a flatmate in the next room or a friend on a different continent. The real distance becomes irrelevant. Amazing is a friendly tactile sense you get from pressing keyboard only. However the sense of reality tends to disappear. Is the person on the other end of Skype real or maybe only an illusion?

Tanya & Volodya. Disco in Moscow Sokolniki Park
Big city is a place for those young and full of energy. However around 25% of population of Moscow are at the age of retirement. Retired people often go through a hard time finding themselves useless and forgotten sometimes even by their own families. However life should go on and they try to find a new meaning in the circumstances they are trapped in.
In Moscow Sokolniki Park there is an open-air dance club for elderly people. They come there to find new friends and socialize. I can only admire the strength and energy of those brave people who come to dance every Sunday regardless the severe Russian weather conditions.
For a few months I used to photograph, record and interview the dancers. Sometimes I was lucky to hear the true stories but more often people would make up a legend or hide behind the mask. I guess it is more comfortable this way.
